Allen Reaves has served as the company's vice president of Generation and senior production officer since 2010.
He is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of plants Ratcliffe, Daniel, Watson, Sweatt and Red Hills, as well as the Chevron Cogenerating Facility. He also has oversight of fuels, system and resource planning, and performance.
Previously, he served as manager of Plant Daniel, beginning in September 2007 after serving as site manager for Southern Power's Plant Franklin in Smiths Station, Ala.
Reaves began his career with Alabama Power in 1980 as a cooperative education student. He held numerous positions at Alabama Power, beginning at Plant Barry as an engineer in 1983 before progressing to maintenance supervisor and shift foreman. He has served in leadership roles at plants Gorgas, Barry and Miller in the operations, maintenance, technical and administrative functions. Reaves also worked as a labor relations specialist for two years.
Reaves served as project director at SEI's Trinidad and Tobago Company, where he was responsible for the reliable operation and maintenance of 1,260 MW of electricity.
Reaves was subsequently named manager of Plant McIntosh for Savannah Electric. In 2001, Reaves moved to Alabama with Southern Power, serving as combined cycle site manager for Plant Harris in Autaugaville.
Throughout his career, he has served in a leadership role for several community organizations — Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Junior Achievement, American Chamber of Commerce, Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America and National Management Association. He also served as chair for the Pascagoula River Audubon Center Advisory Board.
