Ed Holland

G. Edison (Ed) Holland Jr. was elected president and chief executive officer of Mississippi Power, effective May 20, 2013. Headquartered in Gulfport, Miss., Mississippi Power is a subsidiary of Southern Company, one of the nation's largest producers of electricity.

Prior to assuming his current position, Holland served as executive vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary for Southern Company. He also served as the company's chief compliance officer.

Holland also served as president and chief executive officer of Savannah Electric from July 1997 to April 2001. (Savannah Electric was merged into Georgia Power in July 2007.)

Holland joined Southern Company subsidiary Gulf Power in 1992 as vice president and corporate counsel and served concurrently as Southern Company system compliance officer until 1995. He then was named Gulf Power's vice president of power generation and transmission, a position he held along with corporate counsel until 1997.

Prior to joining Gulf Power, Holland was a partner in the law firm of Beggs & Lane, where he served as general counsel to Gulf Power.

Born in Rutherfordton, N.C., Holland received a bachelor's degree in political science from Auburn University and earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law. He is a member of the board of directors of the Georgia Aquarium and is a member and current chairman of Energy Insurance Mutual.

He is a member of the Gulf Coast Business Council. He serves on the board of directors of the Mississippi Economic Council, Mississippi Energy Institute, and the Mississippi Partnership for Economic Development.

Holland is a member and former chairman of the Edison Electric Institute's Legal Committee, is a former director of the Institute for Legal Reform of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and is a member of the Electricity Committee of the Public Utility, Communications, and Transportation Law Section of the American Bar Association. He is a United Way de Tocqueville Society member.

Holland and his wife Betsy have two daughters, Laura and Caroline. His hobbies include golf, boating and hunting.
