Jeff Stone became vice president, general counsel, corporate secretary, and chief compliance officer at Mississippi Power in July 2018.
He is responsible for leadership over governance as well as the business functions of Legal Counsel, Corporate Secretary, Risk Management and Claims, Compliance and Concerns, Records Management and Security.
Stone served as vice president, general counsel, corporate secretary, and chief compliance officer at Gulf Power from July 2017 to December 2018 and served on Gulf Power’s Management Council as general counsel from 1997-2018.
The Pensacola, Fla., native began his legal career in 1980 as an assistant public defender for the Eighth Judicial Circuit of Florida, headquartered in Gainesville, Fla. In 1984, he returned to Pensacola and joined the Beggs & Lane law firm.
At Beggs & Lane, Stone represented Gulf Power in numerous regulatory proceedings before the Florida Public Service Commission, including the initial creation of the Purchased Power Capacity Cost Recovery Clause and the Environmental Compliance Cost Recovery Clause, as well as base rate reviews in 1988-89, 1989-90, 1993, 1999, 2001-02, 2011-12, 2013 and 2016-17.
Stone is active in the community, serving on the United Way of South Mississippi board of directors. He is a longtime adult volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America and is the recipient of that organization’s Silver Beaver Award as well as an Eagle Scout.
Stone earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, with High Honors, majoring in Management from the University of Florida and a juris doctorate degree, with Honors, also from the University of Florida.
