Reliability project completed in Gulf Hills neighborhood

The Biloxi line crew, in partnership with the Gulfport line crew, recently wrapped up a project in the Gulf Hills neighborhood increasing reliability to customers in the area.

The project began last year to add redundancy to the system and provide customers with a shorter downtime during an outage.

“We are excited to add reliability for our customers living in the Gulf Hills area,” said Engineering Supervisor Jason Smith. “I am proud of our team for working alongside the Gulfport line crew to safely complete this job.”

Biloxi and Gulfport crews worked together to build a new overhead distribution line by installing seven new poles and almost 3,000 feet of new conductor.

The Biloxi engineering team identified this project due to previous experiences with outages in Gulf Hills. The project was presented to and approved by the Reliability Council to decrease outage times for the area in the future.

“Creating this tie point in Gulf Hills allows us the opportunity to reduce the duration of outages for the customers in the area, and we’ve already seen the benefit of this project,” said Engineer Morgan Dagel. “Shortly after construction, we utilized this tie point to manually restore power for 346 customers.”

The Biloxi line crew completed the final phase of the project by installing a new recloser that can be remotely opened or closed to help reroute power to the area.
