Fredie Carmichael

Vice President, Customer Solutions and Corporate Communications

Fredie Carmichael returned to Mississippi Power in March 2026 as vice president of Customer Solutions and Corporate Communications and serves as a member of the company’s management council. In this role, he oversees communications, marketing, major accounts, lighting and customer experience strategy.

Carmichael has more than a decade of experience in communications, customer strategy and leadership across the Southern Company system. Prior to returning to Mississippi Power, he served as vice president of Corporate Affairs at Georgia Power, where he led strategic branding and overall communications with internal and external audiences, including advertising, marketing, creative and production services, digital and social media strategy, employee and executive communications and media relations for approximately 8,000 employees and 2.8 million customers.

He also previously served as vice president of Corporate Communication at Southern Company Gas, leading public and media relations, employee and customer communications, and creative, digital and social media initiatives supporting four natural gas distribution companies serving more than 4.3 million customers across four states.

Carmichael joined Southern Company in 2013 in Marketing at Mississippi Power and has held leadership roles across Southern Company, including positions in Economic Development and Communications at Southern Company Gas, Georgia Power and Southern Company. While at Georgia Power, he managed communications for the Vogtle Units 3 and 4 expansion project, coordinating with co-owners, government officials, local and state leaders and the site workforce.

He began his career in journalism as a reporter in Mississippi and Florida before serving as executive editor of The Meridian Star. He later worked as a regional economic development manager at the Mississippi Development Authority.

Carmichael earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Mississippi State University. He completed the True South Economic Development Program at The University of Southern Mississippi and is a graduate of the Executive Leadership Program at Cornell University.

He has a strong history of community and nonprofit involvement, including service on the boards of Black Girls Golf, a nationwide organization focused on growing access to the game of golf, and Junior Achievement, which inspires and prepares students to succeed in a global economy. 

Carmichael is also active in the community as a volunteer coach for local sports organizations and has previously served on the boards of the Fayette County Youth Basketball Association and the Flint River Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

A native of Lauderdale County, Carmichael and his wife, Dr. Susan Carmichael, have three children.
