Mississippi Power named fit friendly worksite

Mississippi Power has been recognized by the American Heart Association as a fit friendly worksite. The company received a gold level award for:

  • Making health and wellness a priority
  • Offering physical activity support to employees
  • Promoting healthy eating options
  • Promoting a wellness culture

“It’s an honor to be recognized by the American Heart Association,” said Wellness Coordinator Lee Britton. “Knowing that Mississippi Power’s leaders and its employees value, promote and support making our workforce healthy mirrors the values of the American Heart Association. “There is no greater goal than staying healthy and I see our employees supporting this goal every day through the SouthernLifeStyle program, whether it is through the things they do at home or in their communities,” she added.

Mississippi Power employees are gearing up to once again play a prominent role in the annual Gulf Coast Heart Walk. This year’s event will take place on Sept. 27 at Jones Park in Gulfport.

“It’s a cause that’s easy to raise money for because it touches all of us. It’s a battle that we have to keep fighting,” Johnny Atherton, vice president of Corporate Services and Community Development, said. “I’m overwhelmed at the continued support our employees show for this cause. There are few events that we get involved with in our communities that will have such an effect on you and your family as this one does.”
