CEO Holland updates Pascagoula Rotary Club on Kemper, utility industry

Mississippi Power CEO Ed Holland spoke to the Pascagoula Rotary Club on Wednesday and covered a variety of company and electric utility topics with the group at the Grand Magnolia Ballroom.

Holland opened the discussion with a review of Mississippi Power’s industry leading reliability numbers.

“Our total focus is to deliver reliable, affordable energy to our customers,” Holland said. “Our customers expect us to keep the lights on and our goal is to meet that demand everyday.”

Holland then turned his focus to the company’s efforts in Jackson County, including community development projects, the Instrumentation and Controls Academy at the Gautier campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and the scrubber construction project currently underway at Plant Daniel.

“We have a basic philosophy in our company,” Holland said.  “We are going to maintain a diverse fuel portfolio because that will allow us to make the best decisions, relative to price, for our customers.”

Before taking questions from the more than 30 audience members, Holland gave an update on the construction and startup of the Kemper County energy facility.

“I’m incredibly proud of our work at Kemper,” Holland said. “The world is watching this project and we’ve had visitors from countries around the world who are looking to keep coal as a part of their energy portfolio.”
