Mississippi Power crews continue restoration efforts in Columbia

Mississippi Power transmission and distribution crews worked safely throughout the night Dec. 23 assessing damage and beginning the restoration process in Columbia. Those efforts will continue throughout today to help safely restore power to as many customers as possible.

Crews will restore power to customers who can receive service, as more than 50 utility poles needed to be replaced along with other power delivery equipment.

Immediately following the storm, approximately 3,800 customers across the entire Mississippi Power service territory were without power at 8 p.m Tuesday night.

In Columbia, more than 3,600 customers lost electric service as a result of damage to equipment from the severe weather.

Approximately 200 linemen, engineers and support personnel from Mississippi Power, Gulf Power and contract crews from Mississippi and Alabama are taking part in the restoration effort.
