Safety is ingrained in every aspect of Mississippi Power’s culture and that commitment is proven in the results of the recently released 2013 Year End Southeastern Electric Exchange (SEE) Safety Performance Reports.
Mississippi Power ranked first in overall company performance for the second year in a row. In fact, last year’s safety performance was so good, it was the company’s second best Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recordable incidence rate ever.
“Achieving this milestone yet again is a reflection of the dedication that our employees have to the Target Zero philosophy,” CEO Ed Holland said. “Target Zero is about continuous improvement and striving to continuously work every job, every day, safely.”
This is the 7th time in the last nine years that Mississippi Power has received the best total company performance.
“I believe the reason that we have continued to improve in our safety performance is because employee ownership is the foundation of our safety culture,” Safety and Training Manager Ty Carmeans said. “Our employees take great pride in the quality of their work and how that quality is achieved. Our company is recognized as one that will deliver outstanding results and will do it without compromising the safety of ourselves and others.”
The company will receive the award at the 2014 SEE Annual Conference in May.
