Mississippi Power storm crews are en route to Texas Friday after a line of strong thunderstorms knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of people, including more than 260,000 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area alone.
Bucket trucks, line trucks and 75 employees, including line crews, supervisors, leadership and support personnel will assist ONCOR Electric Delivery Company with power restoration efforts there. The crews are made up of employees from across the Gulf Coast area as well as Columbia, Forest, Hattiesburg, Laurel, Meridian, Newton, Quitman and Richton.
“Our crews traveled to the Dallas area near the end of 2013 to assist with restoration efforts during bitterly cold weather. While the temperature is much warmer now, the need for additional line crews and support personnel remains the same for our brothers and sisters in Texas,” Distribution and Storm Director Randall Pinkston said. “We’re able to lend a helping hand and continue to provide the reliable service Mississippi Power customers have grown to depend on at home.”
In recent years, Mississippi Power crews have assisted in the restoration effort after winter storms in Texas and Arkansas and spring and summer storms across the southeast. In 2012, they traveled to Maryland and several northeastern states after Hurricane Sandy made landfall.
ONCOR is a regulated electric transmission and distribution service provider that serves 10 million customers across Texas.
