With severe weather possibly impacting the area this weekend, Mississippi Power encourages residents to be storm ready. Mississippi Power crews are once again prepared to respond if any power outages occur.
Earlier this week 3,600 Mississippi Power customers lost electricity in the aftermath of Tuesday’s tornado that tore through Columbia. Local linemen teamed with crews from the company’s Coastal Division, Alabama Power, Gulf Power , and contract crews to have 3,300 of those customers back on line by 9:15 a.m. Wednesday morning. By that evening, power was restored to all those who could receive it in the Columbia area.
This weekend heavy rain and high winds are forecast, with the potential for more severe weather in the Mississippi Power service territory. If power outages do occur, Mississippi Power crews will work to safely and quickly restore service.
Customers are reminded to avoid downed power lines because the lines could still be energized. Those who experience a power outage can use Mississippi Power’s online Outage Map anytime to report an outage and track utility crews as they work to safely restore power.
Simply download the Outage Map app using a smart phone or tablet. The same tools are available on the Mississippi Power website at www.mississippipower.com.
Customers can also report power outages by calling the dedicated outage line at 1-800-ITS DARK. For all other inquiries, call the customer service line at 1-800-532-1502.
