Mississippi Power VP of Generation Development to retire

Mississippi Power Vice President of Generation Development John Huggins has announced his retirement, effective mid-January.
Huggins began his career with Southern Company in the 1970s and has held leadership roles within Alabama Power, Mississippi Power and Southern Company.

“By far I believe his greatest legacy is the work he has done with the Kemper County energy facility,” said Mississippi Power President and CEO Ed Holland. In 2010, Huggins was named general manager for Kemper’s startup, engineering and construction services. In 2013, he was named vice president of Generation Development where he was responsible for the development and construction of the facility and other generation projects.

“John has worked tirelessly on this project,” Holland added. “His dedication, leadership, knowledge and experience have been invaluable to the plant’s construction and development.”

Under Huggins’ leadership, the facility celebrated many milestones, including putting the combined cycle in operation earlier this year and seeing the Operations unit hit the four-year mark without an accident.
