Gulfport, Miss. – Scam artists are taking their attempts to take advantage of customers to a new level, with reports of someone posing as a Mississippi Power employee to gain access to a customer’s home.
“We take every call from a customer about a scam very seriously,” Steve Ford, Mississippi Power Security manager, said. “If even one person falls prey to a scam, it’s one too many, so we encourage everyone to be vigilant if someone approaches their home.”
All Mississippi Power field representatives are uniformed and travel in company vehicles marked with the Mississippi Power logo. Each employee also carries a badge with his or her photograph, name and the company logo.
Field service representatives’ work consists of checking equipment located outside of residences and customers are encouraged to contact Mississippi Power should they want to verify an employees’ information. Representatives will never ask a customer for money or ask to enter a residence.
Mississippi Power’s Corporate Security department is working with local law enforcement agencies across our service territory to identify the perpetrators.
Anyone who has been victimized or has any information about a suspect should call Mississippi Power’s Customer Service Line at 1-800-532-1502 and the local police department.
