Project SHARE gains more flexibility

Mississippi Power’s Project SHARE now offers more flexibility in helping qualified customers who are having difficulty paying their electric service bill.

Beginning April 1, the program, administered by Catholic Social Services in partnership with United Way of South Mississippi, will allow qualified customers to receive up to $300 annually, rather than up to $150 twice a year.

“We had an extremely cold and extended winter season, longer than our service area usually experiences such low temperatures. Our customers’ energy usage is being reflected in their electric service bills,” said Community Development and Corporate Giving Manager Rodger Meinzinger. “This change will better allow qualified customers to receive the help they need when they need it.”

The company first initiated Project SHARE, a nationally recognized program, in 2002 and since its inception, has distributed more than $1 million to Mississippi Power customers who are elderly, disabled, or in special circumstances, or low income customers who are experiencing hardship and need help to prevent disconnection of electric service.

Any customer interested in applying for Project SHARE assistance can do so by calling Catholic Charities at 1-855-847-0555.
