Raising green on the greens

For the 13th straight year, the Jackson-George Co. Chapter of Community Connection hit the links to raise donations for their outreach efforts.

The field of nearly 150 golfers included employees from plants Daniel, Watson and the Chevron Cogen facility, local offices in Pascagoula and Lucedale, customer service, and the Coast Division.

“This is our major fundraiser every year and we will use the money collected for donations across our community,” Wanda Born, employee development coordinator at Plant Daniel, said. “This is a big deal for us, but we also have a lot of fun.”

Home of Grace, which helps people overcome addictions, the American Heart Association, Relay for Life and the United Way are just some of the organizations that receive donations from this fundraiser.

“Events like this keep us alive. This is what keeps us in business,” said Larry Hammonds, community director at Home of Grace.

Three years ago, Adrienne’s House, a domestic violence shelter that provides emergency assistance to women and children, opened in Pascagoula. Shelter Director Stacey Myers attended the tournament and thanked the company for their help from day one.

“Community Connection has been involved with us since the beginning,” Myers said. “They’ve helped out with providing financial donations as well as supply donations for the women and children at the shelter.”

The compassion shared by the Jackson-George Co. employees isn’t just limited to their corner of south Mississippi.

“So far this year we’ve helped raise funds for Gulf Power employees affected by the heavy rains and flooding in April and the Louisville tornado victims,” Born said. “We’re proud to help our fellow employees and others in our community and state that are dealing with some tough situations.”
