Residential Lighting Campaign a hit with Mississippi Power customers

The launch of Mississippi Power’s new Residential Lighting Campaign proved successful with customers receiving more than 19,000 energy efficient light bulbs. Along with free compact florescent light (CFL) bulbs, customers also received tips to save energy and money at home.

“Customers were lined up waiting for the doors to open,” said Jeff Franklin, vice president, Customer Services Organization. “Mississippi Power is committed to promoting energy savings and helping our customers make the most of their energy dollars. Swapping old bulbs for energy efficient CFLs is a simple way to encourage that.”

CFLs use up to 75 percent less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs and last up to ten times longer. Those customers will save enough energy over the next year to power 54 homes for an entire year.
During the week, Mississippi Power distributed 19,350 bulbs to its customers, which exceeded the goal of 15,000 by 29 percent.

“We started at seven billing offices throughout our service territory, but we will do this again. We want to reach more customers and help them save energy,” Franklin said.

The residential lighting program is one of eight new energy efficiency programs the company designed to enhance its portfolio of energy saving efforts.

Details about future lighting events and other programs will be available on the Mississippi Power News Center and at Mississippipower.com.
