Mississippi Power crews are still taking part in Alabama Power’s restoration efforts following thunderstorms and straight-line winds that moved across the state Tuesday night.
As of 8 a.m. Thursday morning, Alabama Power reported approximately 4,000 customers, mostly in the metro Birmingham area, were still without service.
More than 1,700 personnel from utilities across five southern states returned service to approximately 111,000 customers on Wednesday.
Thursday morning, Mississippi Power’s team of 89 linemen and support personnel traveled to Hueytown to continue supporting the restoration process. Wednesday’s work was concentrated in the Fayette area.
“Most of the trouble consisted of downed primary and secondary wire in Fayette,” Distribution Operations Manager Scott Cashwell said. “We had no close calls or safety issues reported Wednesday and we discussed driving as our first and primary task this morning.”
