With freezing and sub-freezing temperatures predicted for most of the state, Mississippi Power is prepared to respond quickly and safely to any weather-related power outages that might arise.
Much like other weather events the company is accustomed to, a period of sub-freezing weather can cause widespread power outages. Company employees have been monitoring the forecast and are prepared to meet any needs that may occur as a result of the cold, windy weather.
Low temperatures Wednesday morning are forecast to range from the teens in the northern part of the service territory to the mid-twenties near the Coast, with wind chills dipping into the single digits in many areas of the service territory.
While no precipitation is expected, high winds could knock down trees or push limbs into power lines.
“With temperatures in the low twenties and upper teens, it is vitally important for our customers that we keep the lights on,” said Randall Pinkston, Distribution and Storm Director. “Our operations personnel are aware of the forecast and will be prepared to respond to any outages that might occur.”
