Employees spend MLK Day on volunteer efforts

More than 100 Mississippi Power employees joined their Southern Company colleagues on Monday in service to others on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

In Hattiesburg, employees assisted Christian Services in sorting clothes and canned goods. Christian Services cooks between 600-700 meals per day, so the volunteers’ efforts were greatly appreciated.

In Gulfport, employees worked at West Elementary School on an outdoor classroom. The school’s principal told reporters that students would begin having science classes outdoors when the weather was nice.

In Moss Point, employees partnered with the American Red Cross to canvass neighborhoods and install smoke alarms.

In Wiggins, employees built and painted park benches for the Stone County Soccer Complex. Coverage is expected Wednesday in the Stone County Enterprise.

Other employees worked on individual service projects or participated in events related to MLK Day.
