Employee Relations Coordinator Jennifer Krohn joined the company in 2004 and worked in Human Resources for 10 years before moving to Employee Relations.

“It seems like it was yesterday that I started with Mississippi Power,” said Krohn. “It’s been a wonderful experience working for the company and with so many knowledgeable and supportive people.

“While I didn’t begin my career with plans to work in the HR profession, once I had the opportunity, I knew it was the place for me.”

During her time in HR, Krohn attained a Professional of Human Resources certification, which is based on a combination of knowledge and experience.

Prior to moving into her current position, she spent eight years designing and coordinating leadership and employee development initiatives for Talent Management.

“I sincerely enjoy my current role and the learning that comes with it. The most interesting part is the many unique situations we are involved in whether it is regarding a law, policy or a collective bargaining agreement. There is a good deal of research involved in most situations, which has led to discovering interesting pieces of our company’s history, such as a .”

A lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast, Krohn was a tomboy growing up and spent years playing sports such as soccer, softball and tennis. At the age of 5, she played on a soccer team for boys because there were no girl teams.

“Shortly after that, girl teams were formed. I continued to play sports all through high school,” said Krohn. “There were so many valuable lessons learned from being a part of those teams, and I made lifelong friends. I hope my children enjoy sports and the team experience as much as I did.”

In 1998, Krohn graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with an undergraduate degree in business. She wishes that while in college she had known the importance of demonstrated experience in obtaining a professional level position.

“My advice for any level or stage of career is to find a way to gain the experience you need to demonstrate your skills and elevate your career,” said Krohn. “Be creative in finding opportunities, and don’t rely on someone else to set them up for you. Once you find the opportunity, you have to be willing to put in the effort, and adding value to the work that you do is key.”

Upon graduation from college, Krohn accepted an internship with the White House Internship Program. She was all packed to head to the District of Columbia. However, the morning she was set to leave, she changed her mind.

“Things happen for a reason,” she said. “Within a few months of that time, I met the man who would become my husband.”

Krohn’s free time is spent with her family. She and her husband Chris have two children — 5-year old Jude and 1-year old Camille.

“For years we weren’t sure if we would be able to have children of our own. So, I am very aware of how fortunate I am to have this wonderful family. Proudly, they are my first priority,” said Krohn.
