The Mississippi Power Laurel Retiree Club recently made a $750 donation to the Jones County Sheriff’s Department for the purchase of emergency triage kits.
The company matched the donation, bringing the total gift to $1,500 — enough money to purchase 30 kits.
Laurel Retiree Club President Bill Langley and Laurel Area Manager Chris Phillips presented Jones County Sheriff Alex Hodge with a check at the club’s monthly meeting at Estelle’s Restaurant in Ellisville.
“Thanks to this donation from Mississippi Power and the Mississippi Power Laurel Retiree Club, the Jones County Sheriff’s Department is better equipped to administer first aid to those in need,” Hodge said.
A group of nearly 25 Mississippi Power retirees and their spouses were on hand for the presentation.
“We thank you for your tireless efforts to keep Jones County safe,” Langley said. “We know you face dangerous challenges and we hope this donation can be used to save lives.”
Phillips told the crowd how excited current employees were to partner with the retirees for such a worthy cause.
“We look up to our retirees because they’ve laid a tremendous foundation of community service over the years,” Phillips said. “This donation is another sign of their continued generosity and commitment to making the communities we serve better every day.”
