Mississippi Power prepared for 2016 hurricane season

Gulfport, Miss. – As the 2016 Atlantic hurricane season begins, Mississippi Power is prepared to respond to any storm that threatens the company’s 23-county service territory.

“We are committed to working as quickly and safely as possible because we understand that restoring power is the first step in restoring quality of life to our customers,” Vice President of Customer Services Organization Nicole Faulk said. “We have a very active service territory when it comes to severe weather, and our line crews, engineers and support personnel are storm tested.”

While no hurricanes made landfall in south Mississippi in 2015, Mississippi Power fine tunes its restoration plan throughout the year based on non-hurricane events such as tornadoes or other severe weather.

“Lessons can be learned and applied for future storm events,” Distribution and Storm Director Randall Pinkston said. “Throughout the year, our storm team and line crew personnel participate in storm training and simulations, and we’ve launched new mobile technology that allows us to identify problems and restore service more efficiently.”

A checklist of preparations and safety advice can be found on mississippipower.com.
