Mississippi Power storm crews conclude restoration work in Georgia

UPDATE: After safely and efficiently assisting Georgia Power, company storm crews were released from duty at 10:30 a.m. Sunday Morning and were scheduled to travel back to Mississippi Sunday afternoon.

Thanks to a combined effort from numerous storm crews, including the 84-person team from Mississippi Power, electric service has been restored to more than 200,000 customers in Georgia in the wake of Tropical Storm Hermine.

The company team embarked on their trip east Thursday afternoon from staging areas all across the service territory.

After making the trip from Florida to Georgia and beginning restoration work on Friday, the north team made up of crews from the Pine Belt and Meridian are continuing their work in the southwest part of the state.

The Coast squad is dispatched further south in an area near the Georgia/Florida border.

According to reports from the field, all crews are working safely and efficiently after Hermine made landfall late Thursday as a hurricane in Florida and proceeded northeast through Georgia.
