PSC approves Mississippi Power’s request to lower rates

Company’s fuel filing to save residential customers an average of $13.70 a month

Gulfport, Miss. – The Mississippi Public Service Commission today approved Mississippi Power’s 2016 fuel cost request, reducing the portion of customer bills related to fuel. A residential customer using 1,000 kWh of electricity per month will see an average savings of $13.70 on their total monthly bill.

“This filing reaffirms Mississippi Power’s commitment to providing clean, safe and affordable electricity to our customers,” President and CEO Anthony Wilson said. “Our ability to take advantage of lower fuel costs and the reliability of our generating units and the employees that operate them are directly benefiting customers.”

The lower fuel rates were proposed in the company’s annual Fuel filing in November and will go into effect with the first billing cycle in February.

The cost of fuel is a separate component of customers’ electricity bills. Mississippi Power does not earn a profit on fuel costs.

Along with the recently approved rate decrease for the in-service assets at the Kemper County energy facility, a Mississippi Power residential customer using 1,000 kWh/month will pay $125.19 for electric service. That is a reduction of $18 below December’s bills.
