Severe weather threatens Mississippi Power service territory

According to the National Weather Service in Slidell, La., the risk of severe weather for parts of the Mississippi Power service territory has been upgraded for Thursday night into Friday morning.

The NWS says the weather system could possibly produce tornadoes, damaging winds and large hail as it moves through the region overnight. High winds and dropping temperatures will follow on Friday.

Saturday night is forecast to be the coldest in South Mississippi so far this winter, with temperatures dropping into the 20s for some communities along the Coast.

After the storms move through the Pine Belt on Thursday night, temperatures are expected to drop into the mid-20s Saturday night with high winds and cloudy conditions in the forecast.

The northern part of Mississippi Power’s service territory is expected to see the sharpest drop in temperature, with a high of 45 degrees and a low of 23 degrees forecast for Saturday night.

Mississippi Power crews are prepared to restore service as quickly and safely as possible should severe weather interrupt service.
