Nearly 6,000 4th-and 5th-grade students across south Mississippi learned ways to help use energy more efficiently during the 2017-18 school year.
The company’s Energy Efficiency Education Program wrapped up its fourth year with almost 80 presentations made at 55 schools.
“This school year was a very busy one,” Energy Efficiency Education Representative Tamara Proctor said. “The students are so passionate about helping their parents use energy more efficiently. They’re excited to take the tips we share, bring them home and report on the results. It’s wonderful to see such excitement!”
At each school visit, Proctor uses an interactive presentation to teach students about energy efficiency. Students are then provided an energy efficiency kit to take home and discuss with their parents. If more than 75 percent of students at a school meet the program’s requirements, the school is awarded a $250 grant for energy efficiency upgrades.
This school year, more than $12,000 was awarded to nearly 45 schools across south Mississippi.
Eight schools were inducted into the $1,000.00 Club for earning $1,000.00 through the program:
Four schools were inducted into the 500+ Club for having more than 500 students participate in the program:
The 1,000+ Club was created this year for the one school that had more than 1,000 students participate in the program:
