Employees recognized for community efforts

A pair of Mississippi Power employees were recently recognized by their local chambers for their civic efforts.

State Legislative Affairs Representative Frankie Castiglia was named the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year.

Castiglia’s community efforts include work at St. Thomas Catholic Church, the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce, the Harrison County Motor for Hire Commission and as a board member of the Associated General Contractors of Mississippi.

“We aren’t involved in our communities because we think we’re going to receive an award. We get involved because it’s the right thing to do,” Castiglia said. “I’m honored to receive this recognition and couldn’t be prouder to represent Mississippi Power in Long Beach.”

At the Greater Picayune Area Chamber of Commerce’s 70th Annual Awards Banquet, Local Manager Byron Hill was presented the Volunteer of the Year Award.

Hill’s involvement in Puttin on the Pink, the Rotary Club of Picayune, assistance with the Civic Women’s Club’s annual Christmas Parade and other causes led to his selection as the area’s top volunteer.

“Picayune is a wonderful community that has a wealth of volunteers committed to make our town the best it can be,” Hill said. “I’m glad I work for a company that allows its employees to be so involved in the places we serve.”
