Mississippi Power’s storm team of nearly 90 employees departed for Georgia this morning from service centers in Gulfport, Hattiesburg and Meridian, where crews are prepared to safely ride out the storm.
The team of linemen, engineers, logistics, fleet, security, supply chain and safety personnel will assist Duke Energy with service restoration following the landfall of Hurricane Florence. Depending on the path of the storm, Mississippi Power stands ready to assist Georgia Power and Duke Energy.
“We are incredibly fortunate to be a part of an industry that understands the importance of teamwork, and our team will be part of a network of thousands of linemen and support personnel that will take part in this restoration effort,” Vice President of Customer Service and Operations Nicole Faulk said.
“Our team’s priority is to work safely and efficiently to restore service where needed, while maintaining resources back home to meet our customers’ needs.”
The team is scheduled to stage in Georgia on Thursday evening and move into the affected region after the storm has passed.
“Our employees are storm tested and prepared to assist utilities in the region as long as we are needed,” said Melvin Roland, who will serve as team leader.
Mississippi Power is a member of the Southeast Electric Exchange’s Mutual Assistance Program, which allows utilities affected by significant weather events to receive restoration assistance from utilities that were not impacted.
