Coast Transit Authority to add electric bus to fleet

Coast Transit Authority will soon add an all-electric bus to their vehicle fleet.

U.S. Senators Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) and Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), along with Congressman Andrew Palazzo (R-Miss.) announced last week that CTA is the recipient of a U.S. Department of Transportation grant to support clean-energy transit service in Gulfport.

In addition to the grant, Mississippi Power is committing $100,000 to the initiative.

“We’re excited to partner with Coast Transit Authority to add the benefits of electric transportation to their fleet,” Marketing Team Leader Rose Ann Pegoda said. “This is a win-win for the company, as we continue to build awareness of electric vehicle transportation, and for CTA, as they expand service options to their customers.”

The DOT’s $744,000 grant is part of their Low and No Emissions program, which provides funding to state and local governmental authorities for the purchase or lease of zero-emission and low-emission transit buses and related facilities.

“The acquisition of this pure electric bus will put CTA and the community on the very cutting edge of electric bus technology,” said Kevin Coggin, Executive Director of CTA.
