Mississippi Power employees recently participated in the Jump Start to Success interactive career expo in Hattiesburg, giving students the opportunity to learn about exciting opportunities in the energy industry.
About 1,000 eighth- and ninth-grade students from Forrest, Lamar and Perry counties attended the event at the Forrest County Multipurpose Center.
“This event is like our Pathways to Possibilities career fair on the coast in that it’s very interactive and students get to explore a wide variety of career and educational options,” said Community Development Representative Ann Holland.
Mississippi Power’s exhibit was one of about 60 in which students could explore careers like health sciences, hospitality and tourism, architecture, agriculture, finance and business services, construction and many more.
“This is an important time in the lives of these students when they need to start preparing for what kind of career they would like to pursue,” Holland said. “Events like these allow them to see that there are a lot of opportunities out there to pursue and gives them the chance to find the one that best suits them, so they can start for preparing themselves now through their class selections and areas of study.”
This is the fifth year that Mississippi Power has joined the Area Development Partnership in sponsoring Jump Start to Success.
