Generation reliability results are strong during summer, winter peaks

The peak season EFOR results are in and it was another great year for Mississippi Power employees at the company’s generating plants.

EFOR, or equivalent forced outage rate, is a measure of the availability of generation units to meet customer needs. Peak season EFOR is calculated during January, February, June, July and August.

For 2019, Mississippi Power’s peak season EFOR was 1.66 percent. In other words, Mississippi Power’s generating units were available 98.3 percent of the time to meet customer needs.

“In July, we saw the hottest month ever recorded, but our plant teams once again answered the call for our customers,” said Jim Heilbron, Senior Vice President and Senior Production Officer – West. “This performance is a demonstration of their commitment to safely provide service to our customers and communities when they need us most.”

Several Mississippi Power units set EFOR records during the 2019 peak season.

“I am proud of our employees and how they overcame the daily challenges to achieve outstanding results – the best we have ever achieved,” said Plant Daniel Plant Manager Michael Smith. “Our employees had an exceptional peak season in terms of performance, but the most important thing is they did it safely.”

“I am excited about Chevron’s peak season EFOR performance this year of 0.11 percent,” said Chevron Cogen Plant Manager Erich Holderer. “This is world-class unit reliability performance and I am so proud of our employees here.  It is a direct result of a lot of hard work by the employees, from proper maintenance practices and operator rounds to well-executed outages. It takes everyone to make results like this happen.”
