Mississippi Power’s 14th annual Renew Our Rivers campaign begins this month, and employee volunteers can expect several opportunities to make their communities cleaner and safer.
This year’s schedule will kick off on March 30 with a cleanup in Picayune. Other locations will include Deer Island, Biloxi Back Bay and Bay St. Louis.
“We have another ambitious campaign ahead of us,” said Renew Our Rivers coordinator Charles Blount. “We’re excited to return to several locations and to visit a couple that we couldn’t reach last year, like Red Creek.”
In 2018, Renew Our Rivers hosted 10 cleanups across South Mississippi with more than 500 volunteers removing nearly 19 tons of debris. Over the last 13 years, approximately 400 tons of debris have been cleared from waterways in the company’s service territory.
“We would not have had 13 years of successful campaigns without our volunteers and community partners supporting us along the way. I’m looking forward to seeing the positive impact this year’s cleanups will bring,” said Blount.
