Mississippi Power donations help front-line workers
Volunteers across South Mississippi are helping equip health care workers with personal protective equipment like masks and face shields.
Mississippi Power, through donations made by the company, the Mississippi Power Foundation, Community Connection chapters and community partnerships, is also helping this cause.
“Ensuring that our front-line health care workers have the proper PPE to continue safely working during the pandemic is critical,” Community Development and Corporate Giving Manager Brad Bradford said. “Leveraging partnerships across our service territory has helped deliver needed supplies to the people taking care of those infected with the COVID-19 virus.”
At Gulfport High School, the robotics team, who the company has supported for several years, began using the school’s 3D printers to produce N-95 masks. Donations in Hancock and Pearl River counties have gone to local groups that are hand sewing masks, providing other PPE and helping to feed health care workers.

On April 20, the Jackson County FABLAB, another of the company’s STEM partners, delivered 100 3D-printed masks to Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula. The Jackson/George Chapter of Community Connection also donated masks and provided breakfast one morning for the nurses in the hospital’s COVID-19 intensive care unit. The group has also donated masks to works at George County Regional Hospital and Greene County Hospital.
In Wiggins, a donation to the Stone County Economic Development Partnership helped local business Sew Inspired Fabrics & Crafts provide more than 400 masks to local hospital and nursing home workers.
“Health care workers at Memorial Hospital in Stone County and other facilities are working day and night to get us through this crisis,” Local Manager Reese Walters said. “We’re proud to join our business partners in Stone County to support them.”
When the East Mississippi Chapter of Community Connection wanted to show its appreciation for Meridian hospital workers, they decided to go the gastronomic route. They dropped off baskets full of snacks for the staffs at Anderson Regional Medical Center and Rush Health Systems.
