Mississippi Power employees help "Stuff the Bus"
It’s back-to-school season, and Mississippi Power’s Community Connection chapters are stepping up to ensure students across the service territory have the tools they need to succeed.
The East Mississippi Chapter donated $2,000 to United Way Stuff the Bus campaigns of Lauderdale and Kemper counties. These funds were used to purchase much needed supplies for students in the city of Meridian and Lauderdale and Kemper County.
East Mississippi Community Connection volunteers safely deliver school supplies to Lauderdale County and Kemper County elementary schools following United Way’s Stuff the Bus campaign.
“Over the last several years, our chapter has developed a steadfast partnership with the United Way Stuff the Bus campaign,” said East Mississippi Community Connection Chapter President Jason Belk. “COVID-19 has affected our entire community, but especially our students and teachers this time of year. They depend on our support, and we’re happy to donate from a monetary standpoint as well as from a volunteer standpoint to make sure our students and teachers get the supplies they need.”
After all donations were collected, Mississippi Power volunteers spent the day safely delivering backpacks, binders and other essentials to elementary schools in the two counties.
“We appreciate Mississippi Power so much for working with us each year,” said United Way’s Kayla Powe. “This event would not be possible without your volunteers.”
The Coast Chapter and General Office Chapter also participated in their local Stuff the Bus campaign. Between the two chapters, $750 worth of school supplies was donated to Harrison County and Gulfport schools.
Additionally, the Plant Watson chapter contributed $2,000 to Hancock County schools to help them purchase new computers.
“I appreciate that the company gives us the opportunity to use our time and resources to support local nonprofits like United Way,” said Belk. “Because of that, we’re able to make a difference even in these unprecedented times.”
