Tuesday afternoon update: Mississippi Power will open its Storm Center on Wednesday morning with limited personnel to follow COVID-19 protocols to continue preparations for the arrival of Hurricane Zeta.
The storm is moving across the Gulf of Mexico with a track for landfall Wednesday night on the Southeast Louisiana coast, then moving across the company’s service territory. Tropical storm force winds and dangerous storm surge are expected in Coastal Mississippi.
The company has secured more than 400 outside resources to assist with the restoration effort.
Tuesday morning update: Mississippi Power is monitoring the track of Tropical Storm Zeta and planning for the potential impacts of the storm across the company’s service territory.
Zeta is expected to pass across Southeast Mississippi on Wednesday night after a projected landfall in Southeast Louisiana.
“We are nearing the end of the Atlantic hurricane season, but it’s important to continue monitoring the weather and have your plan in place for Zeta,” Storm Director Randall Pinkston said. “All of our employees are prepared to fill their storm roles, and we’ve secured additional resources to assist our team in safely meeting the needs of our customers.”
Zeta is the seventh named storm to threaten the northern Gulf in 2020. Cristobal moved across south Mississippi in June, while Laura, Marco, Sally, Delta and Gamma made landfall in other Southern states.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mississippi Power storm team members and contract crews will continue to practice social distancing and wear masks when in the field.
Customers can track the status of an outage and sign up for Outage Alerts by visiting Mississippi Power’s Storm Center.
