Storm team continues working near New York City

Mississippi Power crews resumed work – for the third day Tuesday morning – in the New York City metro area in support of ConEd following Hurricane Isaias’ landfall last week.

ConEd is reporting approximately 4,600 customers are without service in Westchester County on Tuesday morning, with another 1,500 customers in New York City currently disconnected. Those numbers are down from approximately 53,000 customers without service on Sunday morning.

Mississippi Power’s storm team – made up of approximately 65 linemen, engineers and support personnel – is staging in Rye. They’ve helped restore service in White Plains and in the Bronx.

“Our crews have worked safely as they’ve repaired downed lines and removed tree limbs from other lines,” said Storm Team Leader Scott Cashwell. “We’re always ready to assist our brothers and sisters when they need us.”

The storm team was picked up by ConEd on Sunday after working for several days to assist PECO in the Philadelphia area. The caravan made the 1,200-mile journey on Wednesday and Thursday before spending three days in the Keystone State.

 

“When Hurricane Katrina devastated our power delivery system nearly 15 years ago, we received help from utilities all across the United States and into Canada,” Cashwell continued. “When that restoration effort was completed, we had about 12,000 people involved. It’s an experience we’ll never forget, and that’s why we’re always prepared to lend a helping hand.”
