Lineman-to-Lineman event treats Southern Miss football team

Ahead of this Saturday’s matchup with the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, the Southern Miss football team was treated to a refreshing treat after Tuesday morning’s practice, courtesy of Mississippi Power and Kona Ice.

On a day when the temperature moved into the upper 80s, players and coaches received sno-cones after their morning workout.

“This is a great way to show our support for the team and help them stay safe and hydrated as we near the end of summer,” Northern Division Manager Michael Harvey said. “Just like the Golden Eagles, we have a game plan for every job, and we know we’ve won when we safely complete the task at hand.”

Members of Hattiesburg-area line crews were on-hand to observe the end of practice. They also had a chance to speak with new Golden Eagle head coach Will Hall, who thanked the group for their hard work and then enjoyed a sno-cone combo of strawberry and Monkey Business flavors.

Energy Efficiency Auditor Brandon Farmer was an offensive lineman at Southern Miss from 2012-to-2016. He jokingly said he and his teammates never had any frozen treats after practice.

“These students have a lot on their plates with their schoolwork, their playbook and their preparations for the next game,” Farmer said. “It’s great to be back around so many familiar faces and to let the team know everyone in our community is supporting them as the work to take us ‘To The Top!’”

Last month, the company and Kona Ice provided sno-cones for elementary school students in the Hattiesburg School District.
