Mississippi Power prepared to respond to severe weather

Mississippi Power’s storm team is assembled and ready to respond to any impacts from the severe weather that is moving across Mississippi on Wednesday.

The company has secured approximately 300 linemen and vegetation management personnel to assist Mississippi Power employees and contractors. Additional resources are travelling from Texas, Kentucky, Missouri, Florida, Indiana and Tennessee.

“Meetings began yesterday to ensure the company had the supplies and equipment necessary to respond to the incoming severe weather conditions,” said Mississippi Power Storm Director Randall Pinkston. “Crews are packed and ready to move safely and quickly into the impacted area of the service territory.”

Mississippi Power customers are encouraged to visit the company’s Storm Center and sign up for Outage Alerts, which notify them of an outage at their home or business. They will receive another notification when service has been restored.

Additional severe weather tips for customers include:

  • Install a smart phone app that will alert you to severe weather in the area.
  • Prepare a storm kit that includes flashlights, batteries, water, and nonperishable food items.
  • Charge cell phones, tablets and other electronic devices before the severe weather moves in.
