Mississippi Power Foundation sponsors Camp Aqua
The Mississippi Power Foundation recently sponsored 30 campers from the Boys and Girls Club of Harrison County so that they could attend Mississippi Aquarium’s Camp Aqua.
The week-long summer camp teaches local children marine science and lets them experience Coastal Mississippi’s vibrant marine ecosystems first-hand.
“Our hope for these campers is that they are inspired to learn a little bit about our wildlife and our local ecosystems and take that curiosity with them as they continue their educational journey,” said Mississippi Power Foundation Director Steven Dick.
This is the second year the Mississippi Power Foundation has partnered with the Bacot-McCarty Foundation to ensure children have a fun, educational summer.
Campers had a packed week that included a Ship Island beach clean-up, a behind-the-scenes tour of the Mississippi Aquarium and a squid dissection.
“The mission of the Boys and Girls Club is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens,” said Boys and Girls Club CEO Wayne Buchanan. “We are very grateful for opportunities like this where children are going to leave inspired.”
