Residents and visitors of Coastal Mississippi now have two options to enjoy brunch at Brick & Spoon, but thanks to Mississippi Power, more locations are on the way.
The popular breakfast and brunch chain opened its first location in Biloxi in 2019. After a successful few years, franchise owners Kerri Paul and Britni Thompson decided to open their second location in Gulfport.
Mississippi Power partnered with Brick & Spoon to assist them with their expansion via the company’s commercial development program. Because of the program’s incentives, Paul and Thompson were more easily able to expand their franchise and have now committed to opening five total locations within Mississippi Power’s coastal service territory.
“We’ve been working closely with Brick & Spoon since construction on their first location and have built a wonderful partnership,” said Commercial Development Representative Tomeka Durr-Wiley. “When Kerri mentioned her interest in expanding, we started discussing possible hurdles and how our commercial development program could help meet their needs.”
Not only will the new restaurants be on Mississippi Power lines, but they’ll also be all-electric locations. Mississippi Power’s energy efficiency team will help owners maximize their energy savings through lighting assessments and equipment rebates.
Brick & Spoon has also received the Mississippi Power Shine A Light Minority Small Business grant and used the funds for marketing initiatives.
“It’s been a pleasure working with Mississippi Power, and we are so grateful for organizations who create pathways for small and minority-owned businesses,” said Paul. “There are several challenges when opening and running your own business, but Mississippi Power has given us great support and helped us alleviate some of those burdens. The commercial development program and grant opportunities have been a blessing, and we could not be more thankful.”
The commercial development program was created to target business development, including franchises and small business owners. By working hand-in-hand with these customers and offering unique incentives to meet their needs, the end is to expand commercial development in Mississippi Power’s service territory.
