Mississippi Power storm team headed to assist Hurricane Ian restoration effort

A Mississippi Power storm team of 100 line and support personnel is travelling this morning to assist Georgia Power in their restoration efforts following Hurricane Ian’s movement across the state.

Crews departed from service centers across the company's 23 county service territory this morning. They will travel to Valdosta, Ga., and join the restoration effort on Friday.

“Fortunately, we’ve had a quiet storm season so far in 2022,” Storm Director Melvin Roland said. “But we know it only takes one storm to impact lives across the southeast. Our storm-tested team is prepared and ready to help whoever needs it.”

Coast Distribution Manager Brad Falls is the storm team leader.

“We’ll keep our focus on safety, especially as we travel into Ian’s remnants,” said Falls. “We are grateful to be able to support the Georgia Power team while ensuring we have proper coverage at home to meet the needs of our customers.”

Ian made landfall as a Category 4 in Florida on Wednesday morning near Fort Myers and Cape Coral and has continued moving north.

As of this morning, more than 2.6 million people are without power due to the storm’s powerful winds and storm surge.
