Mississippi Power crews complete line reconductor project in Meridian

Mississippi Power line crews recently hosted a planned outage to reconduct a section of the feeder located from North Hills Street to Highway 19 in Meridian.

“We are constantly focused on providing innovative solutions to better serve our customers, and this project serves as one of many examples,” said Senior Engineering Analyst Shakobee Wooten. “These proactive improvements emphasize our mission to provide superior performance at all times.”

Following March storms, it was discovered that a section of wire needed to be replaced to meet the required load in the area.

Due to limited outages caused by extensive summer heat, temporary infrastructure was installed until employees could complete this reconductor project.

In order to meet the maximum load, employees reconducted the section to be able to appropriately tie and feed electricity back into the substation. The project required a roughly seven-hour outage where employees worked to reconduct the section of the feeder, replace aged poles and add transformers to help balance the loads.

This project was part of a larger overall effort to expand Mississippi Power's self-healing network which will improve reliability and lessen outage times for customers.
