Mississippi Power honored for being a military-friendly company

The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, ESGR, has recognized Mississippi Power again for the company’s commitment to supporting employees who serve in the Guard or Reserve with the Above and Beyond Award.

The company was honored recently during Mississippi’s ESGR’s Annual Employers Awards Banquet in Jackson where Engineering Supervisor Robert Boyd accepted the award on behalf of the company.

“I was honored to accept this award on behalf of Mississippi Power,” said Boyd. “Our company has a strong commitment to the men and women who serve in our armed forces, and I’m proud to work with such a military-friendly company.”

According to ESGR, this award is bestowed on employers who go above and beyond what is required to provide Guard and Reserve employees with benefits such as pay to offset lost wages, extended health benefits and similar benefits.

Employers who are eligible have at least one supervisor honored with the Patriot Award and have signed an ESGR Statement of Support. Boyd was honored earlier this year with the Patriotic Employer Award after he was nominated by Senior Utility Arborist Tim Ratcliff, who holds the rank of Captain in the Army National Guard.

Ratcliff, who is currently serving our country overseas, has served in the National Guard for 15 years. He is thankful that Mississippi Power is a military-friendly company.

“My deployment is a burden on my family, but it is also a burden on my work family,” said Ratcliff. “I know that because I work for Mississippi Power, I don’t have to worry about whether I will have a job when I return home.”
