Mississippi Power volunteers collect approximately seven tons of waste across three Renew Our Rivers events

Mississippi Power's award-winning environmental stewardship program, Renew Our Rivers, continued this fall with a focus on the Pascagoula River, Gulfport Lake and Biloxi Back Bay. 

Approximately 40 employees from Coast Division and Plant Watson cleaned Gulfport Lake and Biloxi Back Bay, where they pulled a range of debris from the waterways including lawn furniture, tires, oil drums, a mailbox and plastic litter. An estimated 1.5 tons of trash were collected.

In Pascagoula, more than 80 volunteers from Plant Daniel and around the company spent the morning pulling large debris and litter out of the river, including 10 refrigerators. In total, roughly five tons of waste were collected.

“The hard work and dedication of employees are greatly appreciated as we conduct these clean-ups,” said Senior Engineer Charles Blount. “Renew Our Rivers has been and will continue to be a crucial part of protecting and preserving our environment.” 

Earlier in the year, clean-ups were completed at Deer Island and Okatoma River. Additional clean-ups will be scheduled later this year.
