Mississippi Power employees showcase careers in energy at Jumpstart to Success

Mississippi Power employees met with over 1,500 eighth and ninth grade students about careers in energy at the Area Development Partnership’s JumpStart to Success. 

The interactive career fair, sponsored by Mississippi Power, provided businesses and industries with the opportunity to seek early engagement with future talent, influence educational trends, network and collaborate with students and build a talent pipeline of development for future employees.

Held at the Forrest County Multipurpose Center, Mississippi Power employees provided students from Forrest, Lamar and Perry counties with a hands-on experience into the daily operations and fundamentals of their work in the energy industry.

“Reaching these students and teaching them about our industry is so important because we are proactively training up our future workforce,” said Community Development Representative Ann Holland. “Our employees enjoyed sharing the ins-and-outs of their work with this upcoming generation of workers and prospective leaders.”

Mississippi Power employees across multiple departments were able to inform students how the company generates, transmits and distributes energy to customers. 

Students were able to safely simulate climbing poles, setting transformers and energizing lines through the company’s VR line worker program. Additionally, students were able to use hot sticks on a de-energized simulator transformer to replicate appropriate procedures while learning more about line work.
