Mississippi Power awards Environmental Education Grants to local educators
Gulfport, Miss. – Mississippi Power recently recognized 32 teachers across the company’s service territory with Environmental Education Grants for the 2024-2025 school year.
Over the last decade, Mississippi Power has awarded more than 300 grants totaling more than $200,000. This year, teachers from Biloxi, Columbia, D’Iberville, Gautier, Gulfport, Kiln, Long Beach, Moss Point, Ocean Springs, Pass Christian, Petal, Poplarville, Saucier, Vancleave and Wiggins collectively received $27,000.
“It’s always a pleasure to award these deserving educators with a grant to help foster their students’ interest in environmental projects,” said Environmental Affairs Director Michael Harvey. “The projects funded by these grants provide students with invaluable educational lessons that keep them excited about science and the world around them.”
This year, teachers are using the grants to fund a variety of hands-on projects that focus on recycling, irrigation, gardening, composting, conservation and animal sciences.
