Mississippi Power concludes another successful season of Renew Our Rivers

Gulfport, Miss. – Mississippi Power volunteers recently spent time removing debris from the Pascagoula River, concluding another year of the company’s successful Renew Our Rivers program.  

More than 50 volunteers spent the day on water pulling out 3.5 tons of plastic trash and large debris from the waterway. This brings the total to approximately 26,000 pounds of debris removed from waterways across southeast Mississippi in 2025.

“We’ve held seven cleanups this year, and it’s important to us that we keep our waterways clean and safe for everyone to enjoy here in south Mississippi," said Jackson County Area Manager Lynne Turner. “Renew Our Rivers is just one part of our environmental stewardship at Mississippi Power, and it's always great to see how many people show up to continue to make this program successful year after year."

Before cleaning the Pascagoula River, Mississippi Power volunteers and other community partners worked to clean Deer Island, Okatoma River, Gulfport Lake, Chunky River, Biloxi Back Bay and Boley Creek.

Mississippi Power has hosted Renew Our Rivers since 2006 and has removed more than 425 tons of debris from some of the state’s most popular waterways.
