Mississippi Power honors Volunteers of the Year
Gulfport, Miss. - Mississippi Power's Community Connection leaders recently met for their 23rd annual meeting to celebrate a year of service and volunteerism.
In 2025, Community Connection, the company's employee-led volunteer chapters, housed 766 members, donated $187,328 to local charities, completed 5,450 hours of service through 75 projects and supported 11 families through the Family Connection fund.
The 2025 Volunteers of the Year include:
- BranDee Underwood, Senior Operations Assistant, Coast Chapter
- Lee Hays, Meter Technician, East Mississippi Chapter
- Martha Johnson, Senior Accountant, General Office Chapter
- Amanda Erkhart, Division Assistant, Jackson-George Chapter
- Haley Carpenter, Division Assistant, Pine Belt Chapter
- Jennifer Anderson, Compliance Team Leader, Plant Watson Chapter
Christy Sharp, Principal of the Jackson County Exceptional School, served as the meeting’s guest speaker. The Jackson County Exceptional School collaborates with three different school districts and multiple agencies to serve students with a variety of special needs. The school currently houses grades 1-12, and offers services like physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, adaptive PE and vocational and life skills education.
“We are very thankful for Mississippi Power and the Jackson-George chapter for their commitment to helping our students,” said Sharp. “Because of y’all’s dedication we have been able to enhance their experiences and collaboration with one another.”
Additionally, the Pine Belt chapter raised more than $30,000 for charity through its annual golf tournament this year, setting a record for the highest amount the chapter has ever garnered in a single event.
