Laurel, Miss. - Mississippi Power’s Laurel line crew demonstrated heroic, life-saving actions by responding to a medical emergency on Highway 15 while on the job this week.
“These linemen didn’t hesitate. They relied on their training, stayed calm under pressure and worked together to help save a life,” said Laurel Area Manager Jake White. “It’s a powerful example of the kind of people we have at Mississippi Power — always ready to serve, whether it’s restoring power or responding to an emergency.”
Before beginning their scheduled work, crew members Alex Sanders, Dekoven Wright, Jordan Hayes and Corey Malone noticed a vehicle that had veered off the road. Sensing something was not right, they stopped to investigate and found the driver, an elderly man, unconscious and in distress.
“At Mississippi Power, we take the safety of our communities very seriously. This was one of those moments where our instincts and safety training just kicked in,” said Malone. “We didn’t know the man, but we knew he needed help, and we had the tools and knowledge to step in.”
The team immediately initiated rescue efforts, drawing on their emergency readiness and safety training. They safely administered CPR and used an AED to successfully restore the man’s pulse. By the time emergency services arrived, he was breathing independently.
This remarkable team effort highlights the importance of safety preparedness and the deep commitment Mississippi Power employees have to the communities we serve.
