Mississippi Power ranks as a top utility in economic development

Gulfport, Miss. – Mississippi Power’s Economic Development team was recently recognized by Site Selection as a top utility that is driving economic development in the United States. Site Selection is a leading publication in corporate real estate and economic development. 

“It’s an honor to be included in this ranking and be recognized for the contributions Mississippi Power is making to our communities and our state,” said Mississippi Power Economic Development Director Brian Useforge. “We work to showcase what southeast Mississippi has to offer and to assist in creating jobs and capital investment in our region. Southeast Mississippi has seen tremendous growth over the last several years and we’re committed to powering progress in the communities we serve.”

Several projects involving Mississippi Power’s Economic Development team were highlighted including attracting Compass Datacenters’ $10 billion project in Meridian, PCC GulfChem’s $540 million, 84-job project in DeLisle, Mar Jac Poultry’s $25 million investment in New Augusta and Bar Pole & Piling Co.’s $10 million project in Quitman.

Site Selection also recognized Mississippi Power’s strong commitment to the communities in southeast Mississippi.

Over the past two years, Mississippi Power has awarded over $800,000 to local communities to help further their economic development goals. The company’s Commercial Investment Program is also highlighted. The program provides grants for small business assistance, building improvements, franchise fee assistance and R&D tools for city and county recruitment efforts. In 2024, Mississippi Power’s Commercial Investment Program awarded $225,000 to local cities, counties and small businesses.
